Coming BackA Poem by LeslieNoelI moved back home in 2019 and this poem captures the hopes, promises, and desires that my old stomping grounds held for me upon my return. Going back to where you grew up is always bitter sweet.
Coming back whence I came
Is quite a precarious little game A delicate balance of a sort Even to me, a cunning sport Of rules and pivots at every turn Adapting to them and trying to learn Where I fit in this familiar scene Even though it was my dream To be back in the state where I began The very place from which I ran Now contains a shiny sheen A rosy color And polished gleam It's a place of warmth aglow A safe place I once did know As I acclimate myself to this A changed me cannot resist Although time and wear have taken it's place It still bears it's angelic face Of joyous times, warmth, and love A gift of God from up above I will learn brand new rules To navigate with healthy tools Of a place that's new and old Coming back was certainly bold
