Avian Island

Avian Island

A Poem by LeslieNoel
"

I was at the park one day and watched the birds as the all nestled on an island in the middle of the park surrounded by the water. These were my impressions.

"
They cluster along the muddy bank
Of a barely Nonexistent pond
If food is plentiful
I know not

If there are bountiful resources
It is a home well sought

Soft grass offers a respite
On a separate island in the center
It is safe and will not render
Them helpless to wild foes

Baby ducklings stretch webbed feet
In the cooling waters of the pond
While some secretly hide within the fronds

As they lie upon the green with feathered head
Tucked underneath
I watch my feathered friends as they
Shamelessly bequeath
Themselves to a late summer's rest
