Night Town of Words

Night Town of Words

A Poem by Leslie Philibert
"

too dark to write

"
Dark shapes lose their forms, as the darkness
creeps over the cobbles. Torn newspapers lose
their printed heart-blood, thrown before my
shiny, pointed, going-out shoes.
This is not the time for a manifesto, it is the
age of uncertain quality.
The past races from me and hides in doorways,
running over curved bridges, sticking out its tongue.
Chains of light break and form.
I read my notes, pulled from a pocket of coins and crumbs.
The letters have no sense, they are night shapes.
I is my body, am is longer, weaker. Unhappy starts
with a boat, a half face stretching up into the stars or
half lights, p and y slip down into the next line, the
forms all wrong, a scale with just one wrong note.
I am unhappy ? Did I write this ?

I should thank the 'news feed' (I did not know there was one) for helping me find this interesting and fascinatingly peculiar piece. Mainly, I should thank you Mr Phillbert for writing it and taking me away from the mundane, for a time.

This is so different and because of that so refreshing. yes the subject is melancholy and yet strangely compelling. I believe your gift to paint the scene well is the key

In a way, I say that the writer has a certain part of them, another entity, if you will, that thinks of what we think of. This thing is what writes the poem, the story, or whatever we do artistically and guides us into writing it down on paper or computer. It may not have a name, but it's there, and everybody has a different kind of entity inside them. You did a nice job here. Can't wait to read more of it.

The past races from me and hides in doorways, running over curved bridges, sticking out its tongue. Fascinating line........
I am unhappy? Did I write this? I believe that the soul of the poet writes his or her words.......I know mine does when I let go and let it. Excellent Leslie.

Another good poem here. A unique, refreshing style that I thoroughly enjoyed. A clever use of words, in a simple flowing piece. You should certainly be happy with this effort as I was happy to receive the read request to review it.

I love this one, too! I have told those around me that I must find some people who do not find it odd to struggle for hours over whether to use "the" or "and" or "flame" or "flare", etc. They just smile and change the subject.
"The past races from me and hides in doorways,
running over curved bridges, sticking out its tongue." absolutely wonderful imagery
"I read my notes, pulled from a pocket of coins and crumbs." I find mine in my purse, usually with a paperclip and a small battery as well

"I am unhappy ? Did I write this ?" I am happy that you wrote this!

Thanks!

very interesting topic of choice. I also love the title. "a half face stretching up into the stars" beautiful line. Great imagery here.

Introspective but looking outward. I'd like to know how you managed that. No really I would. That would be beyond me.

...
. i'm saying this in far too many reviews but i can't seem to help it ... beyond this phase or feeling is what mr. kundera probably meant by "the unbearable lightness of being" ... but to get there ... i think i wrote more "dark" words than "dark" could handle ... yet, i knew that expression would lead to liberation ... and it has ... it shall for you too ...
