Two Sisters in DresdenA Poem by Leslie PhilibertDresdenFaces, white and sharp, that peek from the plattenbau, the water meadow unflooded, the Elbe unimpressed, calm as Canaletto and two young girls,foal-legged in a dynamo alley, sipping cola, laughing as letters cascade from an exploded letter box, giggle girls, wrapped transparent red in a chocolate selection, gold flopping from doorways, ashes and melted skin brushed away, there are strangers here, this is reallysomething, the produced greed of long-boned rulers, unimportant, fat with pride and piss beer, forgotten objects without context, dead and lost as the lurkers and gaffers who stare through vitrines reflecting themselves,cow-eyed with cameras, so let this place honour the forgotten dead,we all live because we must, we choose not, and the river passes slightly, the miracle of a later birth. © 2012 Leslie PhilibertReviews
