The Souls Of Household Objects

The Souls Of Household Objects

A Poem by Leslie Philibert
"

things that are here

"
So familiar they cannot be viewed, gnostic perhaps,
each embodied with spirit, trapped in recall,
an earless china dog of unknown origin,
looking stupidly into the living room,
a black-and-white portrait of a Victorian aunt,
strict and cheerless, framed in something faking silver,
children captured free of sin, a moment of innocence,
a wedding picture, frozen, now of strangers,
a postcard from Vienna, retouched with eye bending colours.
The big brown clock fails to tick.
The smell of dusty leather and dried flowers.
Surrounded by things I can now never change.

One of my favourites of your work, I like how it sets a paticular scene and mood and each unique to the different objects.

I like the gnostic dichotomy you place in this from the start. The mood transmitted is excellent.

Beautiful work..Such meaning in the last line, "surrounded by things I can now never change" I could see the memories come alive in all the things in the room. Then, I glanced at my own decor ..each item a glimpse of a past that has become a piece of our puzzle
