Reichskristallnacht

Reichskristallnacht

A Poem by Leslie Philibert
"

glass in winter

"
O bitter glass that cuts our hands
that cuts our hands
let us sweep it away

O bitter men that shave their heads
that shave their heads
let them be changed

O bitter breath that stinks of beer
that stinks of beer
let it be sweet

O bitter paint that smears the shops
that smears the shops
let it be gone

O bitter night that chills our souls
that chills our souls
let it be warm

O bitter way that leads to hell
that leads to hell
let it be closed

O bitter glass that cuts and cuts
and cuts and cuts
let our hands be healed

Author's Note

Leslie Philibert
What I am trying to do here ( and probably not getting right) is to handle a real big serious subject, and I felt I needed to move away from autobiographical free verse and use a lot of tempo and structure,for me an attempt to write in another way.

Beautifully constructed - strange how art can convey such a chilling picture and make something beautiful out of something so ugly...

very lyrical poem. it sounds like children chanting in a soft hazy way in those scenes in horror movies. it's a great to write. i often use rhythm in my poetry rather than rhyme. the imagery is very vivid, and throughout there is that image of blood on one's hands throughout then gives it the closure of that image in the end. great poem.

the repetition is chilling, i read it in a whisper, my hands trembling, there is so much emotion that is tied to that title, knowing that history sometimes repeats I am fearful that there will be another night

Well, you have made a considerable good attempt at it. I think it's great, excellent write and yes the tittle is some what unpronounceable ;)
