The Sorrowing.

The Sorrowing.

A Poem by Leslie Philibert
"

Sorrow.

"
The stairs ascending,
the blinding window sinks to my feet.
Wax and dust in the summer heat,
then sudden coolness , as if in a church.
Standing lost and undecided I hear children,
so I hide in the shadows of a wood floored landing.
Petals strewn before me, wilted like the stanzas of a forgotten poem.
Time to withdraw gracefully,
walking proudly no longer I must submit to retribution.

I can only surmise this as a dream or an interpretation of ascension to heaven. There are many clues yet vague to me. Wax (like from a candle perhaps in church) Dust (dust to dust)
"Standing lost and undecided I hear children," (angels perhaps)

I'd be interested to know its true meaning. Nevertheless, this is an intriguing poem and one to think about.

Nicly written in such a strong statement!

Ascending upward toward blinding light; possibly a personal philosophical evolution. A self induced growth, challenged by introspection on how we might better ourselves. Children often seen to inherently have what we seem to lose as we get older. Scary. If withdrawn, you'll try again. You must. I really like this ponderous brevity. Stories are simple when compared with well penned poetry. Insightful personal exposure.

I get the image of someone undergoing church discipline for their sins. The children in the backdrop speak to me of a reminder of innocence lost, and also of indoctrination of their souls into a group mentality of thinking.
because you say, "as if in a church", I take it has a figurative meaning for you.

I could read this over and over (and I will).

All of your writings were mentioned by Emily Burns in The Referral Group, and I can see why.

. a very dear friend of mine says ... "we're punished by our sins, not for our sins" ... this gem of a poem reminds of the days when i felt guilty ... it's an emotion i learnt a lot from ... then came a time when i was subjected to so much pain ... that i learnt my purpose is to spread the word about how no one should subject anyone to pain ... life's quite a journey ... who knows what the next lesson will be ...

Whilst I enjoy this so much I find the last line feeds me in so many ways.
