An Other Life

An Other Life

A Poem by Leslie Philibert
"

Driving home.

"
Driving home.
Televisions encoded on walls and ceilings.
Ashes in beds after moments of love.
Snow dirty.Half water.
A deer shock frozen still by headlights.
Buses ferry tired men,resigned,sitting apart.
Streets lighted just for ghosts,
the sky scrubbed empty.
Each house is trapped by its own story.

Perhaps I have given too much.
I am the last to sleep.
Tomorrow I will have an other life.

An eloquent look at everyday life. The line "Each house is trapped by its own story" captured my attention. Everyone has troubles in one form or another. We can't possibly understand the struggle of another without listening when they are willing to share, and especially when they need comfort.
"Perhaps I have given too much." I like the line, but as I think on it, I'd rather give too much, than to have hesitated and not given at all. There is always more hurt in holding back IMHO.

When life starts feeling like one depressing day after another, it's time to reinvent ourselves and find that other life.

Many days when returning from a hard day at work wfe all feel like...is this all that there is in life...Sadly for some it is..for others..they study and work hard to raise above the mundane life of the average Joe..Kathie

I love the premise of this write, Leslie
It's quite simple after all
tomorrow I WILL have another life or
Tomorrow IS the first day of my life
very beautifully written, Leslie

There is an emotional vision flowing through your words in this drive home... an angst of what has been... what glimmers in the fading light around you... and your last words, recounting the weariness of the day... An "other life" is one we can all wish for on such dark drives.

Every word is so perfectly placed in the whole. And some might venture that you didn't mean an other life at all. They might point out that it should be another. But I hope that you did. It is always good to read you.
