Empty as a Fool

Empty as a Fool

A Poem by Leslie Philibert
"

as it says

"
wet, curved hills,
sleet behind my eyes,
watery moss

in unreal green;
all this sucks like love
at my heavy steps,

then the stolen voices
of playing children,
kites that text the sky;

all this part of a story,
a day empty as a fool

just how this hits me...reminds me of an older man who never engaged in having a family....he sees the kids playing, knows what he could have had, but instead he opted for just making money in a career, no time for what could have been in his life...and he is as lonely as a kite by itself flying in a desolate wind.

all this part of a story,
a day empty as a fool

-- very interesting sentiments: sometimes perfection seems so boring because it is always expressed in the same manner

Wasted life, wasted tears, in the heart...only fears. Valentine

wow! sleet behind my eyes is brutal ..and the watery moss invites the death of me .. then one leaden foot after the other until i am taken by a horrible tragedy .. my life .. the word love becomes a torment in your poem ..i think "Empty as a Fool" is packed with between the line Sartre ... sheesh! ;) i feel a need to pack my head with sunflowers and daffodils to balance out the keel :))

This left me feeling that the protagonist was out walking and although seeing these visual signals of life felt empty and devoid of purpose.
As always a masterpiece of words that evoke images and emotion Leslie

I love that final line in this essentially existensial poem. The atmosphere is palpable and yet gentle.
