The Third Person

The Third Person

A Poem by Leslie Philibert
"

how to avoid yourself..

"
Step aside, slightly,
                from a beach beside
                cold moving water.
A sighting in rain,
                hooked on a line,
                empty as a fallen bell,
                an open window, opaque..
If I am distant to myself,
                I am lost, aware
of room, the soft crunch of shingle.
Steps of a known stranger, a shell.

Strong opening. Lonely and lost. You say a lot with few words. Nice to read you again.

A great poem, love the imagery in this. Very well crafted.
I think we all spend our lives trying to avoid ourselves, trying to be someone we are not. But it never works, it only brings unhappiness until/if we learn to accept who we are. Pretty cool people.

i don't recognize me...i am a stranger in my own life...sometimes life seems to be easier to deal with if we distance ourselves from ourselves...the truth can hurt too much...we want to give it lighter shades...make it more indistinguishable...

an in depth write with insights into the self.
