Mooncalf

Mooncalf

A Poem by Leslie Philibert
"

inspired by a German expression my wife explained to me..

"
Stilts balanced by the fear of falling.
Afterbirth and straw.Inside out.
A mix of skin and string.

Pulled out like the tide,
a mess of purple tubes
and slime-life.

Your eyes as round as earths.
You try to eat the night air
then seek the primary.Milkmouth.

Born under a stone eye.
Special and disjointed.
You are not white enough

to be dry bone,
rather hopeless pearl
as the full moon sags.

mmm not white enough....not perfection....I like the issue of judgment seen in the underlying reaches of this piece, but I also relate in a very literal way...when I was 7 or 8 one of the summers we were in Vermont, we watched a calf being born...and it looked exactly like what you described here.

Yes, a new calf to the world, not perfect. The seeking of perfecton only brings pain if you are doing it for all the wrong reasons. The little calf will stood up and be happy with his/her mother there waiting.

A very descriptive poem describing the birth of a calf. I'm sure it will be 'right enough' before long. Seeing a baby calf scamper about is a joy.

A calf born, not white enough..but I hope just right to be the same color of the moon. Here we judge by breed, not color. Valentine
