Going to Church on New Year`s Day

Going to Church on New Year`s Day

A Poem by Leslie Philibert
"

what I saw in the village

"
Slight as birds,
Not in flight
But well placed

Between hill and
Village, snow as it is;
Balanced, neutral,

Greyheads, silver-eyed
Drown in tweed;
Beyond manshape,

They ballet over ice,
Horse-footed
Terse with God,

Wordless,
Sort of half alive;
Drawn aginst the white

A very descriptive poem, very emotional. I get a sense of oldness or hopelessness. Maybe its just acceptance of life. Anyway, a very creative poem making the reader think and ponder. Nothing wrong with that, its good writing.

Old people walking through the snow covered village streets on their way to church. In most places on New Years Day they are still in bed with a hangover or just snoozing because they watched the New Year come in. Happy New Year, by the way. Valentine

Indeed a fine description of what you saw but for me there is an observation of people going through life without living it as old age squeezes the life from their breasts. Ads always the most sublime poetry Leslie. Hope 2015 is a good year for you.

What a fantastic description of what you saw. Your words brought the scene to life for me.
A very impressive poem indeed.

You are very welcome.
as always i want to put a frame around your writings, the pictures you paint with your words are so vivid.

the snow might be neutral but those stuck in it, are definitely half-alive and feeling wordless---
as some of us poets like Emily who wrestle with that idea of God and see things happening in the world which make us feel sort of terse with him.

love this.
