Fracking

Fracking

A Poem by Leslie Philibert
"

we bury ourselves

"
And when the earth
Is ill with shale
Each day will blister
From a pitch-dark shadow

All the drops that save us
Will be abused
So we the dogs
Can eviscerate all that is holy

We have stolen the
Voices from gravel
And grass and sand
As if they cannot suffer
Because we have
Not earned this place
We have not earned this place

Fracking is going on near where I lived in a southern state, we started having mild earth tremors. It was near the San Madrid Fault and when the house and windows shook it was eerie. Now I live in Mich since I lost my husband a while ago. I expect one day the earth will just give way and cave in from all that man takes out of it. Kathie

This poem reminds of an apocalypse and sustainability as well. It's hard to find two such unlikely themes in one write. Nice write.

Thanks ! , not much of a poem,I know, but a statement...
I like the tone in this one. A sad, tragic situation. Fracking is terribly controversial and many say it is permanently damaging property and groundwater. I like the environmental sensitivity shown in this piece. Very nice writing, Leslie. Thank you.

Thanks for the review, and have a nice Christmas
A very nicely done poem. We all have a right to our opinions on political things and such and I think you expressed yours in a wonderfully creative poem.

You're welcome. You have a great holiday too and happy new year 2015.
Wow Leslie, You have taken this controvesial subject and given it a classical Christian make over. Why indeed do we feel we can rape the earth of all of its goodness?

You too Leslie and wishing you a wonderful 2015.
we stole it back when the natives held feast and broke bread with us so long ago...we just assume what is there is ours...and we take it, regardless of what it does to people, regardless of what it does to the land.
