Flooding In Kaschmir

Flooding In Kaschmir

A Poem by Leslie Philibert
"

a difficult poem, I know

"
At twentythirtyfour
On the eleventhofseptember
           a neuropathological tracer

Jumped from the box
Lost poem; a title over rain
           men waving tins at a tractor;

And the later sleeping without
Rest; rooms full of waves;
          the ineluctable modality of water.

It makes one wonder if there isn't some evil hovering over that date now, or just another horrible set of coincidences. I think for me this speaks to the way we hear these things in the periphery -- running into each other, the horrors and tragedies of the world.

Very well done. I love the ay you wrote this. The reader just can't skim over this they must look a little deeper and take a little bit of time. I think it is a splendid poem.

and the flooding takes place, 9/11---in Kaschmir...

just as the flooding of terrorism swept the states when the planes hit the towers..
I like your use of "jumped from the box/ a title over rain"
and how that parallels what was on the black boxes of the airplanes...as they swept into the skyscrapers.

this poem connected to me very deeply, even if I was not in Kaschmir...

excellent writing...only difficult in the sense of dealing with such strong emotion.

The form and structure of this text is intriguing, and the oblique meaning and allusions tease me relentlessly. It's going to take a while to digest this, I think. Masterful write!
