Paradise

Paradise

A Poem by Leslie Philibert
"

back to English..

"
Let me be an old man in Anatolia
Resting on a white plastic chair
Saintly in a starched white shirt,
Drinking tea from a glass that has
Curves like a woman, watching
Children and traffic, nodding at
Shadows, a friend of dust and
Thin cats, weightless like a moth
On running water, silent with the
Grace of years, half asleep.

This made me picture many medeteranian scenes I have witnessed and the sense of serenity and simplicity such a slow paced life portrays. Dusty hot days just watching.

Thanks as ever, John !
Sounds heavenly, all but the starched white shirt, that might get sticky hot in the warmth. Nice one. Valentine

Thanks for the review, and best wishes !
that would be paradise...an old man observing life, nodding...still able to assess...as long as I still have my wits about me and can sip that tea...I want to be around...

love the line "thin cats, weightless like a moth"

When a poets of your quality writes this, then I am very pleased to read this !
yes, that image is very beautiful, it makes someone feel the peace in the world other than the industrial life that he is facing everyday.. that is very well described writing, iloved it

Thanks for the kind words, I wanted to get a feeling of peace and tranquilty here...
And enchanting feeling here. Never been to Turkey if that's where I am been sent to with the writing. And it oozes age and acceptance, less of the fighting more of the taking in. Exhaling what is infront of him not so much as interfering more of the intervening with the senses. The following lines are intriguing becuase they talk about a state of coniousness that is present in the older ages. As deastiny half fullfilled and waiting for the next whatever that may be it would be indicative of a dream like conciousness.

Half asleep , very endearing feeling.

Thankyou Leslie.
