Acheron

Acheron

A Poem by Leslie Philibert
"

a river

"
flows as soft oil
trees newly dead

beneath a consciousness
that defeats the will of heaven

to a water sordid with ash
(not a cleansing,no)

as I fall into many parts
the start of the end,across

this is a poem that will probably not be liked much, a bit obscure, but I have to be pleased with my own work myself, and have courage..

This is mysterious, dark, and dramatic...as if life and death come full circle...

Perhaps a beginning to an end...

I love that you allow the reader to make their own interpretation...

Nicely penned, Leslie!~xoxo~

The ending is open and invites interpretation, and the oppositional couplets and bleak descriptions (which are quite beautiful) all combine in this work of art to take the reader on a satisfying journey. I'm really glad you posted and shred this with us all. Excellent writing as always.

Paradoxical but the many parts have to fall in place. I feel those people are crossing a dead river instead of a living, breathing one. I think you are comparing a river to our conscience. Splendid...:).........

Now that I've googled Acheron, the poem is more accessible. In mythology the qualities attributed to the river are rather paradoxical, as is the image in your second stanza. Interesting.
