Refugees

Refugees

A Poem by Leslie Philibert
"

for all forced to leave home

"
What is left if nothing`s left ?
The tap loses teeth-blood
Each empty cup smiles with malice.

We have fallen over the fence,
Our pictures torn, a history in bags,
We walk like a cluster of wraiths,

As dull legs trudge over stones.
The old will wither with frost
When the night comes sooner.

And if the children cry in the night
There is nothing more to say;
Than that the stars are hungry too.

oh this just oozes with sadness for the plight of those who get displaced...the imagery is startlingly
bold and in your face...in a really good way.

"the stars are hungry too" we are not alone,...they are not alone.

Many thanks for the kind words !
Is there a population on earth more lost, susceptible, and vulnerable; than our refugee population? Who do they have to turn to when they are wronged? How do the children receive schooling? Who cares for the elders? Where these people come from is bad enough... just yesterday, I listened to, and held, somebody who transported a stroke victim back to her home after the hospital kicked her out for being poor. She lives alone; her son is dying in another hospital after a terible accident 6 weeks ago. The womn is paralyzed on one full side, and lives alone in very inadequate conditions. My friend's BEST hope is that she dies quickly. And when these populations go on the move, faces become numbers and casualties become statistics. They may not have much where they come from, but fleeing makes them even more vulnerable... and for the most part, we turn a blind eye. They are an invisible, uncounted, unfulfilled population. And I thank you for having the compassion to look them in the eye, and treat them as human.
