Time Lost

Time Lost

A Poem by Leslie Philibert
"

I wrote this very fast

"

So at some point
you start to notice the difference

that makes this single;
a sparrow on a fallen wall

the first change of glass
to drops of water

loam broken from under
in the garden`s warmer corner.

You start to hold the finite;
a coin minted and shaped,

held for the last time
then spent as your body;

the past like the hidden part
of an iceberg; lost in blue.

At times the words leap onto the page, as a static discharge before the quill contacts the parchment. This piece reflects the realization; there are more hours behind than ahead. And yet you make it, by the wording, uniquely optimistic. As with a good novel, when we reach the end we are not sad, instead we are sated by the fullness of well crafted chapters.

Fantastic poem. Worth reading many times.
Once doe get the sense of 'something lost' when reading your
descriptions and imagery. Perhaps more than just time.

A fantastic poem with wonderful imagery. It gave me a rather sad feeling.

You should write 'fast' more often, this is outstanding Leslie.

Such is life in its peculiar nuances, you pen'd it so beautifully. Love that last stanza.

I live in a beautiful place that only has two seasons- and the change for us is extremely abrupt. One day everythign is dust, the next, it is mud. We do not have the nuances of the cycles of 3 months each, slightly different form the rest. We don;t have the small observations that tell us a thaw is on its way, a new cycle has come. Only the very observant note subtle chnages in birdsong and vegetation shifts. It is not better, not worse... just different. And when I think of the things I miss most about the US- 4 seasons in the at times unforgiving northeast is certainly one of them. I ownder if that is why it feels so much, to me, like time has stopped in place when I am here, but speeds up to light intensity when i am in the US?
