On The Death Of A Girl

On The Death Of A Girl

A Poem by Leslie Philibert
"

I wanted to write a very simple poem.

"
How can I
go forward to Spring
when you left me
in Winter ?
How can I drink
when you are
as dry as a stowed apple ?
How can I eat
when you are as empty
as a cold bowl ?
How can I sleep
when you will not wake ?
Let me stop and reach for your hand
seeking your fingers.

I like questions in a poem and this one although sad ask heartfelt questions. An excellent pen upon this...

I cannot believe thirty five people viewed this poem and did not whisper a word. This is achingly beautiful. It is constructed cleanly, with imagery for maximum impact. I just decided to check things out. So glad I did.
