Midnight

Midnight

A Poem by Leslie Philibert
"

written at night

"
a bent silence
            unattended the changes
            subtle through the hours

a white-horse star astray
            blocks of darkness
            that fall badly

a town at sea beyond a
            halo over roofs
            the night sky, holed cloth

ghosts that shuffle as a motor
            bees down a river-road
            full of coal,the air empty.

I felt enveloped in darkness as I read this. Every stanza a tale in its own right. Economy of words. Bravo.

Excellent job of setting a spooky scene of a darkened town by the sea. I enjoyed it!

I lived on a barrier island for a time. This little scene you painted took me there, again. Sounds are amplified and hushed all at once. Ghosts do roam down those water roads. I have heard them whisper to me.

there is something haunting with a scene like this....a river town at night...deep at night...

the sounds, the feel...like there are ghosts about...it feels that way...as the town sleeps, the ghosts are at play...and in the morning all seems the same. but is it?
