Work In Progress

Work In Progress

A Poem by Leslie Philibert
"

tragedy is never simple..

"
(Get this right;an ethical trap,the body count,working title :Lost Children).

So it all goes to hell;a ring of heavy men at a microphone;
the same film,the next mouthing, then teddies in rain.
(Macbeth knew it;there are only victims).

And a savage god that asks for much,
lending his hand to snap at young eyes;
a morning smashed,
a paper torn,
a chain broken.

we are absent
we watch

And in a dust land a mother`s face turns to water,
a stranger turning to a camera
a little cake turned bitter
(we are all lost, understanding is smoke)

Very different, I love the last line understanding is smoke. I feel that way most days lately.

understanding is filmy and flimsy at best, when life's turns are downward spirals...and tragedies occur for which there is no understanding...

"and in a dust land a mother's face turns to water"

great line..

i like what you say in your "About"---because i so much feel the same way...
the "poems, the words" they are what is important...not the poet.

Powerful images. This peaks of tragedies and who can understand when they occur? Life can be like that...mostly confusion. A truly amazing poem!

Interesting thoughts and imagery to express what tragedy is. I like the teddies in rain, makes me think of a child crying for his teddy that's been left out and is getting soaked in a wet puddle!

I loved the last part where you said, "Understanding is smoke", because I took it to mean that one's understanding of the world is as transparent as smoke itself, and that you can't really grasp the concept of any world except your own, because its like trying to get a grip on smoke. Wonderful write, the last line was my favorite.
