The Last Harvest

The Last Harvest

A Poem by Leslie Philibert
"

a hard one to write

"
A forest without moonlight
A moon with no light
If there would be moonlight
there would be the shapes of trees.
But there is no moonlight.
Only moon.

Harvesters work the fields.
Shaitan.
Mengele.
Ivory faces with the eyes of owls.
Slices of animals ; bloodcorn ; plant

the crops of Treblinka and Verdun.
We have stolen the passion from the killing.

Fantastic poem! Well done on this. Love the imagery you used. This has impact.

There are certain words here that make this is more than a photographic essay, I think. The contemporary historical context in the final stanza sets the stage for the last scene/act for a display-with-caption ending. The last line, a verdict of sorts upon an instantiated aspect of humanity become process.

This is one of those reads that when you're done you go 'whoa'.....lot's of food for thought here, deep and profound to say the least, tragic poem but a pleasure to read.

The lack of moonlight is sorrowful and tragic, like the events in this poem, so poignantly expressed.

Dear Leslie,

Hard indeed. So much sorrow. So much pain and suffering. A harvest of death.

"ivory faces with the eyes of owls" is a brilliant line.

Wiping the tears from my eyes!

If this was a hard one to write, it was a hard one to read as well. But has a nice feel to it.

Wow! Amazing!
This is really a mysterious writing. It made me think something out of my BOX as a simple writer. But, I really enjoyed reading this piece... as I think I have to read all your works soon so that I would learn a lot from you and your profound works.
