The Blues

I rewrote this at least ten times....

Hit the bass and thumb the devil`s back

Or shift the chords ( but keep the standard bars )

Let your fingers dance up a dark sided guitar

To play the blue notes along a rail track

Don`t mess me up with a jazzy type seven

Get your bottleneck sliding up all so tough

If you want to feel hurt than play that blues stuff

And thank the Lord for a bad mooning heaven !

I think the tenth rewrite worked. Love that opening line and the rest ain't bad either. I have to chime in and agree that when you're playing the blues you really don't need any jazzed-up chords and riffs. The blues is supposed to make you hurt. Make you cringe.

Great imagery Leslie. And I could also hear the music in my imagination; the strumming of a guitar, and z sad sad wail... I would like to also comment on the structure and the tone of this, I thought it lent itself completey to what you were trying to do here. Very well done...

The rhythm of this poem is such that it can be sung to a bluesy tune, at least in my almost-but-not-quite-tuneless world.
There have been much less meaningful lyrics on Seventies rock albums.
