Electra

Electra

A Poem by Leslie Philibert
"

a poem from the past

"
Let me seek asylum in the sea
                      silent depths of ice water
                      for I have swallowed sorrow

Touch the clematis in a seaside garden
                      a patched wall sun-warmed
                      and crystal with salt

Shudder at the rumble of the breakers
                     small stones laughing as they
                     are pulled over the sand.

Orestes : the noble are no more than disguised.

The complexity of love and hate in families is, sadly, continually repeated throughout myth and history, Les. Translated into human behavior, the fixation of Oedipus or Electra can be very destructive. Orestes knew - and you reflect that sadness well in this poem. P.
