Punctuation And The Edge Of Love

Punctuation And The Edge Of Love

A Poem by Leslie Philibert
"

talk,talk.talk

"
My father is language ; my mother speech
and I am many words, yet

when I talk to you there are commas,
a phrase turning with a semicolon, a dash -
so, well, and, maybe, the conjunctive.

Our coffee has cooled.
The first snow outside ; late this year.

You have found a fine set of images to describe that state when unselfconscious love gives way to self consciousness, when we teeter on the edge of lovelessness but haven't quite fallen into indifference.

amazingly insightful review...
what a creative write using semi colons, dashes, periods, the first sentences, "My father is language, my mother is speech" Beautiful sentiments here!

the first stanza (minus the 'yet') is the essence and accent of us all; that, and the rest is a joy to read

Ah yes, punctuation! So important and yet so puzzling. My pet hate is improper use of apostrophes and yet I still find semi-colons confusing, but am slowly learning to use and even like them.
