Poetry Magazines

A Poem by Leslie Philibert
"

for Philip Larkin

"
Poetry magazines are a lot of poo
They send your poems back to you
With little notes and friendly words
As a poet you`re a wordless nerd

They`d probably send Bill Shakespeare back
And call John Keats a lot of crap
And as for our dear Ezra Pound
I`m sorry sir, you`re so unsound !

Your iambs are no good at all
Your prosody a lot of balls
The theme this month is vegetables
From turnips we`ve heard nothing at all..

So here`s my tips to all you poets
Forget these literary posh don`t-know-its
Let the people decide what`s good or bad
Here`s to a democratic, international, anti capital
publisher and magazine free Internet...
FREE POETRY !
(O.K., the last line doesn`t rhyme, but hallo Chicago -
I´m no good, am I ?)

LOL! Great rant! Love the wry wit and biting sarcasm and the way you punched it out with jabs all the way through. You don't need a publisher to give you validation. Good work is good work, whether paid or free. Oh, and this is good!

this is great...Chicago..ah yes, "Poetry Magazine" out of chicago...one of the stuffiest.

i once got a rejection, hand written, that only had one word : "NOPE"

i was devasted, how curt it was.

thanks for this poem

really cool piece.. your voice is so versatile... and always standing up for the true, free artist.. can't help but agree with you, leave the publishers to the profit seekers. brilliant writing.

Thank you !
You have my subscription Leslie (sorry for that horrible ''witticism'')
I like very much this piece, a little departure perhaps from some of your other great pieces. Your wry annoyance is swept along by a lovely sense of ''ho-hum, that's life.''
Thank you Leslie -

Sarcasm foiled perfectly in wit and humor! What a great way to express dissent! My compliments!

Thank you !
i agree, this little rant i found very humorous, witty, an enjoyable read, written with great rhyme and flow. i have to say i mostly enjoyed these lines here:

They`d probably send Bill Shakespeare back
And call John Keats a lot of crap
And as for our dear Ezra Pound
I`m sorry sir, you`re so unsound !

Your iambs are no good at all
Your prosody a lot of balls
The theme this months is vegetables
From turnips we`ve heard nothing at all..

i love your choice of words here. especially the fact that you mentioned
my favorite poet: John Keats. i'm glad i stopped by to read this, i was definitely not disappointed. p.s. i agree with you (about "poetry magazines") - *rolls eyes*
thanks for reviewing "Raven, Black, Blood" and for sharing this poem :)
