The Waiting Room

The Waiting Room

A Poem by Lesley Irma

The mood is heavy,

in the waiting room

In this ICU,

critical status looms

Upon hearing news,

eyes brim with tears

Beautiful faces,

now fill with fear

Doctors speak,

in medical terms

We consult Wikipedia,

for a quick learn

The fate of our family,

and dear friends

Now left in the care,

of strangers hands

The world outside,

has fallen away

Yet here in this room,

humanity remains

A hug given freely,

a shoulder, to lean upon

Supporting each other,

we must stay strong

We are all very different,

color, sex, and creed

Yet our hearts are all aching,

with the very same need

Here in this room,

we are one for each other

Broken individually, together,

sisters and brothers
