Window Shopping at Walmart

Window Shopping at Walmart

A Poem by Leon Gipson
"

a whimsical look at the landscape before entering a walmart. written in 2002.

"

oil marks the spot
at walmart
in a parking lot
so big as the eye can see
there are cars
and more cars
and things that you think might be cars
all in the parking lot
at walmart
where the oil marks the spot

a friendly smile lets you in
i look across the great vastness within
filled with everything you can imagine
there are no windows
there are only walls
at walmart
why i ask
are there not windows
to see, to gaze
to shop without going in
only at walmart
do they have walls
without windows
through which to gaze

long walks to sort the treasures
within the walls
at walmart
watching your step
walking the aisles
searching in vain
flourescents flicker
senses dimmed
only at walmart
there are no windows
just walls
to keep you in

zombie shoppers
strange voices overhead
no windows for looking out or in
lining up at empty registers
waiting a turn
to leave the walls within
with no windows
for a parking lot
where oil marks the spot
only at walmart

About
Began writing "poetry" many years ago. Simple stuff that had to rhyme, now it tends to be more "modernistic", but dark at times and sometimes rhymes - depends upon the mood. Those that I will be post.. more..
