Ashes to Ashes

Ashes to Ashes

A Poem by Leo Allen

Red and redder it spreads;
Ashing, clouding your vacant head.
You can't feel emotions the same
When they're spilling from your veins.

By yourself, you'll remain
Until you overcome the pain
You haven't felt since the toll
Of finding you're not whole.

It splits in halves, thirds -
An ache increasing - greater sore,
The whispers bleed the bold words
"I don't love you anymore."

Her words like fire,
Burning in your head,
Leaving grey nothings -
Ashes that stay dead.

She doesn't feel the same
When speaking your name.
Now a bare shimmering
From a love lost kindling.

"Of finding you're not whole." I love this line so so much, it's powerful. This entire piece is powerful, and your imagery is perfect. Lovely reading this.
