The Emanation

The Emanation

A Story by Leo

Her little footsteps made a huge thud, thud, against the cold barren wooden floors. Her presence was haunting in the empty corridor, her shadows bouncing off of the pale blue walls. A light, an eternal flame almost, glowed at the end of the long hall leading to an unknown future. She walked, and slowly quickened her pace; she could feel something, prickly on the back of her neck. The wind blew in from the tall ominous windows and with a shiver she broke into a run, aimlessly into the shaft of splendor…

And there she entered a world, a world unknown to her, mysterious as the way water striders walk effortlessly across a pond. This place was completely different; a sprinkle of hope and dash of goodwill grew from her feet all the way to the nooks and crannies of her mind. Then and only then she knew her decision had been correct, she was not living in the darkness any longer. With every step, she seemed to be living in a new era of confidence. Her feet fell upon the hot pavement simmering in the golden heat. Her creamy skin like black leather dripped in the sweat she had held on to for so long, and now she let it go. By the harbor and the still waters of the sea, she had emerged and stealthily drove herself away from the crowd assimilated into all the like faces and ran, ran like she had never ran before away from her troubles, ran until the edge of time and the present seemed to meet. She was free, free at last, freedom settled on the fringes of her breath. Taking one last glance, one last backward look, at her past at her memories she walked on, head up…breathing.
