Halloween Sweets

Halloween Sweets

A Poem by Lena Chere
"

Visionary fiction again, inspired by psychic experiences that I've had.

"

I should have given those sweets to the children.

Halloween test, he was waiting for me.

They were chocolate bouchées! I wanted to eat them.

He hid unseen, and waited to see.

Their Halloween masks still haunt me now,

Screaming at me in my sleep-

Children’s catcalls pursuing me,

Mocking the safe distance I won’t keep.

Look Mum! The big kid, always taking risks,

Always eating our sweets, always dropping crisps,

Always throwing fireworks, getting in the wars,

Hanging with the bad boys, won’t come indoors.

Always hides behind her disguise-

Posthumous fancy dress costume.
