For a second I had an extreme desire to slit my own throat with a kitchen knife. 
The next second I wanted tea.

The mind is an interesting machine indeed. I suppose it is an example of our desires fighting against the urge step into the last frontier. Oblivion and life are balanced within two moments back to back. You have captured the struggle for life and against life quite well.
