The One Night Stand

The One Night Stand

A Chapter by Leira

I will venture to say that most people who are reading this have a moral compass that doesn’t exactly point due north.

Don’t be offended.

I don’t mean you’re a bad person. It just means you are more liberal in your decision making.

But here’s to you.

This is all about why that decision you made last night wasn’t nearly as harmful to society or even your personal character as much of the human race would have you believe.

Part 1: The One Night Stand

Alright so these are generally not our proudest moments, but I believe the phrase goes:

The best way to get over an old guy is to get under a new one.

Well maybe that strategy isn’t foolproof, but who can honestly tell me that hot, steamy sex with a person who is devoted to giving you the best night of your life isn’t a good distraction. Think about it, the guy has one shot to get it right. And playing off of male insecurities, that is motivation at its finest.

So maybe this wasn’t an after breakup one nighter, maybe you happened to meet a guy at a bar and told yourself, “just let it happen.” Well if this is you, cast aside your shame! Because there are more than enough silver linings to take out of this one, hun.

Let’s think about this in a long term perspective. Mama always said you’d never buy a car without test driving it right? And how many people do you know who actually bought the first car they drove off of the lot?

Practically zero. Do you know why that is? It’s because people don’t know what they want. It makes perfect sense that people do not want to make a decision until they know what it is they’re getting themselves into. So a salesman says, “I promise this car is the best you’ll find anywhere!” Do you just take his word for it? NO! You don’t.

So let’s change the way you look at that one night stand with that super-hot guy last night. You weren’t looking for a soul mate when you left that bar with him (If you were, come talk to me and I will give you the best reality check that I possibly can). You were going out for a test drive. You were seeing what was out there and giving it a shot. And if anyone judges you for that, simply laugh at their hypocrisy and walk away knowing that you probably have a better car than they do.

Oh, and if the guy was not that attractive… I truly am sorry.

My only criticism: more.. liberal?.. in your - I think you could maybe italicize 'liberal' and not use the punctuation, I think it would have the same effect because it'll be drawing attention to the word. :)

I'm really liking how this chapter is written, and I'm not sure if it's sparked by real events or anything; but I do like the second person narration and how this either will get a reader to relate or if it just helps a reader into the position of the subject. :) I think it's good. And I also like how it's not written so seriously, as of yet, it's quite reassuring. That's nice. :) So I think I shall subscribe to see where you take this, because I think it might be going somewhere good. :)
