People are beginning to fly

People are beginning to fly

A Poem by Leigh
"

This poem is about words doing what we want them to do.

"

Stretching and reaching with fingertips high

The people of Earth are beginning to fly

They’ve taken on the looks of the angels aloft

With white feathered wings so pure and so soft

They’re spiralling round trees and circling in loops

Trying out their wings and gathering in groups

Then setting their sights on places so far

There’s no need for buses, trains or a car

The airports are graveyards for rusty old planes

The land is so quiet with its disused roads and lanes

Over water and seas travelling they all go

To the far flung places they knew so long ago

When you’ve been close to heaven above

It's a tremendous feeling and one that you love

But the worst feeling of all is coming down

To reach hard land, to be on solid ground

The people of Earth are flying

I can see them out my window

I think it should say "Trying out their wings" not wing. Also I feel some of the lines don't flow as well as they should because they are too wordy. However, I really like the concept of the poem and so wish we could all sprout wings and fly off to distant shores, preferably before we die!

I loved the idea of this poem I can imagine the quiet roads and cities although I guess the skies might get a little crowded. Nicely managed

this is very uplifting. it's also nostalgic when they go 'to the far flung places they knew so long ago.' reminds me of going back to the age where we were innocent and things were simple, and we are in a state of bliss. that makes it all the more difficult to come down to earth again where there is conflict and strife.

I love the surreal emotions that you have captured in Flying...this transcends through dreams, hope, faith, and love...Could be Angels... souls flying toward there destined places in life... This is a Beautifully written piece. Great write!

It gives wings to the reader on a thought that appears to be a sign of new things to come in the world. Nice write!

This could be a metaphor for so many things. The heady high you get when in love resembles exactly what you've written in this poem, and the ensuing pain when all gets lost, too, is well described. I liked the flow of the lines, and the simple rhyme scheme. The only line that hindered the flow was "The land is so quiet, so still are the roads and lanes". I can't think of an alternative, but I know you can :) Very well written poem.

I've never heard pigeons described in such a positive light.
A well versed flight of fancy, keep 'em flying.

What a beautiful picture you're painted with this poem. I like the thought of people swooping with their white feathered wings.
I'd suggest reworking the fpurth verse. It doesn't seem to scan as well as it should.
