Floating Embers 🟧🟨🟩🟦🟪

A Poem by Leigh

🟦🟦🟩🟩🟪🟪🟧🟩🟧🟨🟨

Fire lights the darkened sky
Dimming the pattern of stars
And nature is so quiet now
As embers float into branches
In this beautifully free place
We will soon make so ugly

Crowns of trees make a curve
That reflects in the lake
Giving perfect symmetry
The shape of a woman
She is lying on her side
Her eyes laughing at us

In the coming light of day
Snowy mountains look down
With their circling eagle eyes
In this huge new country
Of great continental size
Unforgiving and wild

Rivers too wide to cross
Announce themselves
With crashing waterfalls
Barring our journey west
Making us prey to the wild
In the adventure of this land

It's what we do best, turn paradises ugly and ruin what once was beautiful.
You'd have thought we'd learn our lessons by now, but instead we try to tame wildernesses that should always have been wild and then we forget the once beauty we ruined by moving on and making the same mistakes again.

Your poem holds secrets part shared, part analysed by self.. finding a way through the How our surroundings are altering: point to part hidden places, faces and feelings. Your words are gently laid but bear weight which surely signals not only the beauty of our world but fears for its infinite existence. Perhaps.

I relate this to the fur traders and explorers that crossed the North American continent while it was still a pristine wilderness and of the destructive development that has taken place ever since
