God On Our Side

God On Our Side

A Poem by Legion
"

Trying to fight the silence of the muse again.

"

God On Our Side

We stand,

Defiantly

Against one

Another,

With the belief

That we fight

With God on our side.

We dance,

Deftly

With one

Another,

With the thought

That this war

Shows God on our side.

We spar,

Divinely

With one

Another,

With the misconception

That bloodshed

Ordains God on our side.

We die,

Deceived,

As the

Devil snickers

At the conceit

Of our belief

That God was on our side.

Legion-

Sorry that I have not been around. Is this not the case with holy war and jihad almost all of the time? It appears that we have been plagued by ruthless, cruel dicktators since before we could write down the history of of plagues and oppressions. And, always our leaders seem to declare that Allah almighty is on our side on both sides. Indeed, he is - he is on the side of all of Creation and his own. However, usually it appears to be a horrible power struggle that just ends up with a lot of death and tragedy when war is involved. Missed you greatly during my absence - I have been busy and have the best accounting of my time available in my section that I can discern at this time.

Peace and love,
Gabe

Very powerful
I felt frustration and
a whole bunch of anger
coming out of this

It almost sounds like you
are pissed every time you see
or hear of people just talking out
of their a*s

Great work bro

Gee piggy this is DEEP and a little negative, but the message is clear. I was wondering whether, in an argument God is on both sides, if so...where does that leave us?
The deception of Demonic activity is rife in society and I hope and pray that people will wake up to the conditioning of minds to accept the filth abounding around every corner, on prime time television and on writing sites where children can gain access, no 'mature warning' will stop them doing that, all it does is fuel their curiosity.
Thanks for bringing awareness, that is a wonderful thing :-)

I love the way this piece implies the futility of war in the name of God: simple, to the point lines that really pack a punch. There truly is no way to sugar coat the truth in the matter. Also, I dig the ambiguity of it. You're not calling out any particular god or religion: it is all that kill in the name of their own.

We die,

Deceived,

As the

Devil snickers

At the conceit

Of our belief

That God was on our side.

your ending really packs the final wallop. Truly emphasizes how much grace and spirituality is lost in the bloodshed. Excellent job!

A great message, and some well-crafted words to go with it. Poems like this, with so few words between line breaks, jam the meter into a pleasing "rhythm"; it's quite pleasing to the ear, and often lots of fun when read out loud. One of the great tragedies of mankind is exposed here: we can't seem to reconcile our differences, which can be vast. And yet, ironically, we kill each other for this same reason. Well done.

Look down through history, so many wars in the name of God, Allah! Is it too simplistic to say-What is wrong with this picture? Your poem says it well! Barbara

Many profess that God is on their side, and this profession may indicate faiths of differing beliefs. As The Archangel notes in his review, the jihad, holy wars are all waged with their belief that God is on their side.
Your last verse nails it!
Your write is most insightful, and the format is excellent for the thoughts that you convey.
Well done!

Again, your use of minimalism in your lines is impressive; it's giving me a lot to think about! Very simple at its core but the devil is in the details; the ending nails it. Very nice.

I liked this poem. It showed faith and at the end, more of a question if God was really there. I liked the way you structured the poem as well. I'm not a poet but only a novelist however, I can see good writing. KS
