Sorry that I have not been around. Is this not the case with holy war and jihad almost all of the time? It appears that we have been plagued by ruthless, cruel dicktators since before we could write down the history of of plagues and oppressions. And, always our leaders seem to declare that Allah almighty is on our side on both sides. Indeed, he is - he is on the side of all of Creation and his own. However, usually it appears to be a horrible power struggle that just ends up with a lot of death and tragedy when war is involved. Missed you greatly during my absence - I have been busy and have the best accounting of my time available in my section that I can discern at this time.
God is not a child with a great leg in a game of kickball that we can choose for our team to help us win. But rather God is the air that all the players breathe and the earth upon which the entire playing field sits and so very much more. Men want to create a god in their own image; a petty, vain, vengeful, hateful, spiteful, warring, jealous almighty diety that can be bought and bribed with good works and gold coins. That God, I believe does not exist. I believe in an understanding, humble, forgiving, loving, peaceful, creative, confident God that loves all creation and sustains it through grace and power. I believe in a God that is more concerned with our souls than with our weak and miserable flesh. I claim no special knowledge of God's thoughts, only a reflection of the mercy, kindness and love I have known that I believe to be good and true and worthy.
Oh wow, Legion.... What you say has quite literally smacked me across the face, saying....'Wake Up; Wake up!'.... I believe this was your intent. To act defiantly against one another, to dance in war with one another, to misconceive bloodshed for God's expectations will indeed make the devil snicker because we are living by his (Satan's) principles.... An eye for an eye suggests evil is at work. We delude ourselves by thinking that we are all mighty and God is with us in all our conceit.
Truer words were never spoken, when it comes to hatred, and the lives its broken. You penned the hidden thoughts of us all legion, and did it without challenging the fundamentals of religion, no small feat. I particularly enjoyed the lines "With the misconception/That bloodshed/Ordains God on our side." I also interpreted an interesting phrasing in the separation between the lines "With one" and "Another". The subtle break there makes the message apply overtly to the subject of war, but also implicitly implies our conduct between one another, in our relationships and our day to day lives. Well done.
hello freind we've met befor but your most likely don't rember me check your messges to find out, this write was very intrging how often is it that man belives that "God" if such an acusation exesst is perswaded to be on our side by such ideasy as war which could easly be ended think about if no nation had an army how would there be war maybe simple hatered amogst one a nother but most likely not war but back to muy opinin on the story
I am reminded of lyrics from the Folk band Fairport Convention, "We are Brittania/ we crown an empire/ we came and conquered/ we tore their borders down/ we need no conscience/ God is on our side..."
This is a concept I've always liked, and a very nicely done presentation of it. When exactly did the American flag start becoming a symbol for Jesus anyway? A reverend friend of mine asked that question not so long ago. It scared her, she said. Me too.
nice poem man
good subject to write about
With the misconception
That bloodshed
Ordains God on our side.
that is a really powerful just by it self keep up the good work
this was really a successful poem..... there is sarcasm, too and this is something I am not used from you, what happens when we replace word God with intelligence? How would then sound this poem for you? Loved the ending! Good to read you again!
This is an excellent piece of writing. The structure is sound. The repetition of the last line stresses the topic well. Each side always thinks God is on their side. I like the last verse especially...indeed I think the Devil does snicker at our hapless conceit. Well thought out and well written poem.
I write about various topics. Mostly I write poetry/songs. I took my screen name from a concept album/epic poem I wrote years ago titled "Legion's Legacy: Tales of the Damned" which was inspired by .. more..
