God On Our Side

God On Our Side

A Poem by Legion
"

Trying to fight the silence of the muse again.

"

God On Our Side

We stand,

Defiantly

Against one

Another,

With the belief

That we fight

With God on our side.

We dance,

Deftly

With one

Another,

With the thought

That this war

Shows God on our side.

We spar,

Divinely

With one

Another,

With the misconception

That bloodshed

Ordains God on our side.

We die,

Deceived,

As the

Devil snickers

At the conceit

Of our belief

That God was on our side.

Legion-

Sorry that I have not been around. Is this not the case with holy war and jihad almost all of the time? It appears that we have been plagued by ruthless, cruel dicktators since before we could write down the history of of plagues and oppressions. And, always our leaders seem to declare that Allah almighty is on our side on both sides. Indeed, he is - he is on the side of all of Creation and his own. However, usually it appears to be a horrible power struggle that just ends up with a lot of death and tragedy when war is involved. Missed you greatly during my absence - I have been busy and have the best accounting of my time available in my section that I can discern at this time.

Peace and love,
Gabe

And God probably does not even know which side He is on.

So well written and clearly stated. Good job sticking to a measured rhythm and meter. Not easy without sounding forced. Shows off your talent!

Very true that each side tends to justify their position and put God in their court. Nicely done.

You juxtapose the actions of a group of men with an agenda against the true reality of action very well. This piece calls human nature and belief into a court of verse and makes a very accurate accusation and delivers a dead on sentence.

I really admire the conciseness of the poem. It isn't overy verbose and flowery. Its simple, right to the point, and raw in a beautiful and honest way.
I also like the form to the peom. Free verse seems to have become an awful popular excuse for lack of talent recently.

Brilliantly and succinctly you convey our self-deceptions about our brutality and God's admonition. So well done with a powerful, poignant ending.

That's a mighty reasonable sword you wield there, sir.
And then, adding color, we continue to buy, knowing through clear evidence, that to buy, is to die.
One thing about the only God I know, the biblical one, is that he created human perfect, in his image. And then five generations later, he drowned them all.
Thus, I proceed with caution where there are things I do not understand.

I love it when a poem can convey a mood and a message in concise language; each stanza is a cylinder being emptied into an effigy of god.
