Before I touch upon this touching piece of remembrance of the time before things became as they are, I wanted to say I disagree with the mention of politicians offered in one of the other reviews. No, a single person can generally not go out there and change the world; but before casting stones and pointing fingers - one has to ask what they have done in their little part of the world... personally, I have not done crap - so I will not complain about it... :)
This is a painful piece to read, as it is very clear and it should be evident to all of us how we have been failed by our parents and how we are failing our children - knowing that without putting an end to this change in behavior, it will never stop until it is far too late. There is a humble flow to this piece, that catches well the humility that was felt even as the pride was felt by our forefathers. Now we simply seek the pride of all that unnecessary bling, that lovely ladies with too much backside will of our epic feats sing, until that moment when our 15 minutes of fame causes that final bell to ring...
...we can do what we can, nothing more, but if we do not do that... if we do not do that...
Wow, I'm impressed! I liked the way you lined up the wording, I loved the rhyme and enjoyed the read. I think I'm in for the night... but thanks for letting me know about your writing.
In defense, I must say there are still those that "Have conformed To create A sanctuary For the ones to come" There are still hands of love "fathering", maybe not as many as we would like but they are out there. Other than that, this is a very "deep" writing which I am truthfully not able to review well as I am not exactly "clear" on some of the meanings and would not want to do your poem any injustice. Maybe I am an optimist as I for one see on a daily basis a man that the "seeds" that were planted did germinate and have carried on to make him a very loving, caring, nurturing father (and even more so) grandfather which in turn will hopefully take seed within his children and grandchildren and continue on. I can only hope that if there is One, there are more... Well written, very moving piece.
