If a Bumblebee Can Fly, Why Can't I?

If a Bumblebee Can Fly, Why Can't I?

A Poem by Legion
"

Something goofy I just thought of from a pig's perspective on flight.

"

If a Bumblebee Can Fly, Why Can't I?

If a bumblebee can fly,

I must question why can't I?

Will I find success or die

If I should give it a try?

Pursuing the idyllic dream,

A chance at one clandestine scheme,

I run and with a mighty jump

Launch, through the air, this porcine rump.

For a moment of pure exhiliration

I become one with the avian nation.

But gravity, I find, is no friend of mine

And reality proves that this portly swine

Returns heavily with such a squishy thud

And lands on his dignity, rump in the mud.

Oh, Mr. Bumblebee

Won't you please, please tell me

All the secrets of your success

And stop laughing at my distress?

Very cute message, though I sort of get the feeling that you tried too hard to make it rhyme and in some places it didn't flow as nicely as other places. But that's just me, and I like to feel a certain rhythm when I read.

I absolutely enjoyed the little story that it told though. Nice job!

There is something to this. I have a theory that all of our unhappiness stems for being unable to float weightless to the heavens . . . but then I'm a poet.

lovely! I agree with Siddartha, I thought of Charlottes Web and Babe also :-)

This is delightful. It reminds me of Charlotte's Web and the movie 'Babe' - the little pigs that wanted to be more than what they were. I had hoped it might work in the end and pigs could fly but alas he landed with a thud in the mud. Really adorable tail - so to speak.

Siddartha

LOL, I love it, poor little piggy tried to hard to fly and for just a moment he got is wish, but then, well, reality set in...such is life is it not? A really fun read and good write, I liked the flow and the rhyme and the imagery, well lets just say it was the best part for me. LOL Loved that stanza where the poor pig/swine lands on his dignity...lol. Got quite a chukle when the poor piggy was asking the laughing bumblebee to tell him the secret of his success and to stop laughing at his distress. LOL Fun, fun read. Thanks for sharing your sence of humor.... ;)

Great stuff! I love the wit, the 'Far Side' imagery and the Aesopian (sp?) bee-pig pairing. And of course some humans are bees and others porkers. But the pig is a plucky fellow and the bee a pain for laughing.

Thoroughly enjoyed this whimsical little gem with its creative rhymes. You can fly, you are just not trying hard enough. LOL
