These Are Their Thoughts: Skeletons

These Are Their Thoughts: Skeletons

A Poem by Legion
"

Another old one. Was looking for this for Helen Woodward. Based on the starvation in Ethiopia back in the 80's. I was 18.

"

These Are Their Thoughts:  Skeletons

"Hunger!

So Much hunger,

And we cannot eat

The dead,

For we are

The dead."

Skeletons

Of flesh,

With big, starving eyes,

Gaze into a

Starless sky.

No falling stars,

No foolish dreams.

Skeletons

Of flesh,

With large, bony fingers

Grasp onto a

Dying life.

No future,

No sullen memories.

Skeletons

Of flesh,

With lost, starved minds,

Think upon a

Screaming child.

No anger,

No sanity.

Skeletons

Of bone,

With gnarled, decaying teeth,

Bite into the

Flesh of death.

No life,

No pain.

"Knowledge!

So much knowledge,

And we cannot destroy

This death,

For we are

That death."

Dear Legion,

When you are a skeleton, all is lost. All reality and reaction to the world is lost: ...No falling stars, ...No foolish dreams, ...No future, ...No anger, ...No pain. But when others on the outside view this misery with vast knowledge and resources, then who is to blame? Who truly is the skeleton? When you are a skeleton ...No humanity.

Kind regards,

Rick

Very expressive poem. We still get those adds and they are heartbreaking. Yes we have knowledge but more importantly we also have the wealth to resolve these problems. But we need a massive heart opening for everyone to want to do something about it.

I remember those commercials and the sadness it brought. Looking back on it today, we have done little to change, only now if the economy keeps going as it is it'll be little american kids on the screen starving.

Good write.

Knowledge!
So much knowledge,

Isn't that the truth?! Very nicely done. Quite an accurate picture too that you painted...so sad.
Oh, how Death surrounds us...
Great job.
