Ode to a Bug

Ode to a Bug

Ode to a Bug

Poor bug

Drowned.

At the bottom

It was found.

A short life

Shorter made

In this glass

Of lemonade.

I wondered of its dying thoughts

Or if it truly thinks.

Wish I'd found it sooner,

Before I'd finished my drink.

I like the overall irony with the bug's final destination being the drinkers mouth. It is an enjoyable piece with a nice dose of wit. My favorite lines were "Wish I'd found it sooner, /Before I'd finished my drink."

I would say that I felt line 10 was a bit rough overall. You set up that great thought about what was going through the bugs mind in line nine, but the flow is a bit off.

This is great.... funny. Two associations come to mind. I think of James Thurber for some reason and then I think of the Who's song Boris the Spider where the author of the song is much less compassionate the the author of Ode to a Bug. Must say that after reading your darker pieces this one is quick to bring a smile. A fave.

Very funny! I had to read this because my house is being over run with ants! This is funny! Made me stop to think for just a split second before I killed the ant on my leg! Great poem!

This twists me with two reactions: One, I sorta smile because I have found bugs in my liquids, because the rhymes are light, but it takes me further because I, too, have considered wether the tiny life-forms desire to live....I like pausing agian to consider it....

I liked this one. It was short and sweet and very cute.
I think we all, at some point, try to imagine what a bug's life and death would be like. I know I certainly do!

Poor bug... He probably thought he found nirvana only to die in the wonderful sweetness. I am sure his last moments were happy ones. LOL This was really cute.

this is frickin' great! Poor bug didn't even get any Lemon Bicardi to drown his dying soul. If bugs have souls. : ) Love this!

CUTE!!!!!!!!! Very well done. Oh goodness me! How many glasses of lemonade have we consumed without a thought to the bug! LOL Well done! 100 daisies.

I enjoyed this...my face cracked on the word 'lemonade'. I sometimes talk to my daughter's rabbit...and then end up feeling utterly lonely as a human being, because who the hell writes poems about us when we are in the lemonade!

by the way your poem reminded me of when I was sat in the garden late one summer's night, put my wine glass down, picked it up again a minute later...paused for some reason and looked at it...to see a wasp was swirming (could actually be a combo of swarm/squirm and swim!) around in there. I wince to this day at the thought of drinking the wasp!
