Steam
Dawn broke the dust of the night
Which had enveloped thought without comprehension.
A choice was chosen by chance,
Unaware of the repercussion
That would resound around the globe.
A fire that razed the collective mind,
Set forth the pattern of development.
The industrial force that swept aside
The individual for the establishment;
Fabricating a fallacious hope.
And the steam began to rise,
Increasing power by exerting pressure.
And the turbine turned the world,
Spinning frantically into the future.
Chorus
:
The flesh was peeled away
To reveal the machine’s decay
And the procrastination of realization.
Steam!
With no thought contrived on our own,
The revolution had grown
Into the horror of civilization.
Steam!
Now the foreman,
Who takes the lashings from the big boss,
Brings down the hammer,
The reminder that covers his cost,
On the eyes of humanity
Staring up through indifference
As the coils of industry
Tighten their grip with no grievance.
So the planet began to boil
From the troubles and turmoil,
Of the fascination
With mechanization.
Chorus 2
:
The vapor became the vortex
In which our lives became complex,
Encumbered by our rapture.
Steam!
But the bubble burst the dam
And the whole thing got out of hand
After the seams began to rupture.
Steam!
Ending
:
And the steam began to rise (The vapor was the viper!)
Increasing power by exerting pressure.
And the turbine turned the world (The vapor was the viper!)
Spinning frantically into the future.
(Steam!)
