Modern Day Christ

Modern Day Christ

A Poem by Legion
"

A piece I wrote trying to contemplate how Christ might be treated if He were to have been born in this day and age.

"

Modern Day Christ

...and only

the garland stands

upon his grave...

Barbed wire crown

Slashes his brow.

Rivet-pinned palms

Upon an iron cross.

Blood burns

Into a concrete dais.

Sweat stains

Agonized temples.

Harlots and harlequins

Dance at his dangling feet.

Laughter and curses

Haunt the melancholic martyr.

The rockets red glare,

Breath of despair.

Damned, divine being

Lost without seeing,

A people without belief;

Dying, filled with grief.

It states well, something sadly thought, that we have no need of a living Christ. It would not fit in, and it would not have fit in for well over a thousand years if not two. They need the living memory of a dead Christ.

I like the mood and tenor. You do have a way with words. You also pick here, one of my favorite subjects, the Lord Jesus Christ.

The 'rockets red glare, / Breath of despair.' line gave me chills.

Of course, I didn't expect any less =)

Great, as always (even though this review may be 23 years late)
