Martyr (Carrying the Cross)

Martyr (Carrying the Cross)

A Poem by Legion
"

What would you do?

"

Martyr

(Carrying the Cross)

Rocks tear and slice His feet

As He walks beyond.

Back bent with Burden.

His eyes

(Calm and comforting)

Pierce the jeering crowd

And fall on me.

I tremble.

Those eyes, so luminous,

Question,

"Would you carry this cross?"

The thought races

In my mind,

"Would you carry this cross?"

I look away.

He walks beyond.

Legion

(circa 1989)

"Would you carry this cross?" a question that hangs in the minds of many including my own for it not only means literally but spiritually as well. How many of us will be willing to switch places with Him? How many are willing to suffer as He did for the salvation of the whole? This piece leaves me astounded and pondering. Such simplicity yet complexity are embedded in these words of great wisdom. In the physical realm he was human feeling as we do. Can you imagine the "human" fear he endured still knowing the fate ahead of him even though it was His destiny? Many, many questions can be derived from this. Nicely done.

I would gladly carry his cross with pride and take the burden off him. I often think about what it would have been like to watch the degrading display of hatred towards Our Saviour. The unfairness and treatment of innocence and goodness. This is a beautiful piece of prose and an interestingly probing question...
Thank you,
Helen :-)))

This is one of my favorites of yours........we all seem to want to bearing the cross, bearing witness, bearing anything that is beyond the norm. Yet in order to better society, better the world and better ourselves spiritually, we have to be willing to face our pain, our fears, bear it and then release it.
