Martyr (Carrying the Cross)

Martyr (Carrying the Cross)

A Poem by Legion
"

What would you do?

"

Martyr

(Carrying the Cross)

Rocks tear and slice His feet

As He walks beyond.

Back bent with Burden.

His eyes

(Calm and comforting)

Pierce the jeering crowd

And fall on me.

I tremble.

Those eyes, so luminous,

Question,

"Would you carry this cross?"

The thought races

In my mind,

"Would you carry this cross?"

I look away.

He walks beyond.

Legion

(circa 1989)

"Would you carry this cross?" a question that hangs in the minds of many including my own for it not only means literally but spiritually as well. How many of us will be willing to switch places with Him? How many are willing to suffer as He did for the salvation of the whole? This piece leaves me astounded and pondering. Such simplicity yet complexity are embedded in these words of great wisdom. In the physical realm he was human feeling as we do. Can you imagine the "human" fear he endured still knowing the fate ahead of him even though it was His destiny? Many, many questions can be derived from this. Nicely done.

Nce, The polarity between belief and human weakness and how they feed off each other in both positive and negative ways.

This is both a fantastic depiction of Christ's road to Calvary (by the capitalization of pronouns, I'm assuming it's Him), and extremely thought provoking - the two questions in particular. "Why?" His reasons were nothing anyone could have understood. "Would you?" Looking at it, most of us would say no. And perhaps, that is the answer to the first.

To stop my random flow of philosophy, I will simply repeat that this is a wonderful, enchanting poem and I loved it.

You are right, Powerful, Piercing, and Poignant. You don't just leave me in the dust, with stuff like this, you don't even walk in the same sand. Someday, Someday - I'll keep working, Thanks.

there is no doubt many would take his burden on themselves. but what if it were someone else who fell short of his glory? maybe a father led to his death in Iraq, or a mother about to be killed during a viscious rape, or a problem child in the midst of a molestation an adult. Tell me, would we all be so bold as to take their place with such enthusiasm as he took ours, or would merely shake our heads and looked shocked and say "how sad it is to see this" and "God I hope somebody helps that pooor person" as we turn of the TV or we just walk on by?

For this is what many do even now thruout the world and truthfully his message falls by the wayside. For many live not his 'example' in their lives, while they deem themselves worthy enough to proclaim his 'message' to the world instead. He did not just sit and preach sermons to the people, but he walked among them and healed while he proclaimed unto them all the good news.

great write and I felt it. thanks.
