We Are...

We Are...

A Poem by Legion

We Are...

We, who have brought the world to our feet,
Have failed to tread lightly.
We are humanity.
We, who have conceived the concept of infinity,
Have failed to comprehend its intensity.
We are humanity.
We, who have given truths to all we see,
Have failed to realize their mortality.
We are humanity.
We, who have reached beyond imagination,
Have failed to embrace one another equally.
We are humanity.
We , who have crafted grand civilizations,
Have failed the construct of unity.
We are humanity.
We, who have shaped our situation,
Have failed to understand our reality.
We are humanity.

Indeed. Every time I read "We are humanity", I felt like adding "cousin to the monkey', or something to that effect. Because while we like to think we are lofty (and we can be), we show a greater penchant for being base and cruel.

A lovely and insightful write, as I would expect from you. It has been some time since I visited. I'm glad I did.

Best regards and high marks,

Rick

Yes, true, we are humanity, and we are living all together on this planet.... so we better deal with it, and shape our situations, as best as we can.

A very nice write my friend.

We Are.. Hypocrisy? You have some seriously large metaphors and connections which I enjoy thoroughly. You take large swings at reducing life to mere lines. It takes a certain kind of mind to to do this and know what they are doing. I was curious since you carry this bit of pessimism throughout the piece, have you thought of maybe adding a twist at the end that is hopeful? Maybe something about birth or the cycle of life? For some reason I think that would add a bit of color, a second perspective if you will. I do see your duality here and I think that was your original intent with this. Very true. I look forward to reading more!

Wow, I'm just getting lucky with readin great poems for the last couple of days! This was simple and bluntly honest, yet it was not written so harshly that it takes away from the flow or the beauty of the poem. I really enjoyed this - haven't read anything from you in so long, since I've been gone, this is the perfect poem to come back to! Keep up the good work my friend :)
