1A Chapter by Ashley G.Psychic LifeThis is a world where people who are different are shunned; exiled. As little kids we wish we could fly or have superhuman powers. As adults we ignore what we can not explain. As teenagers we walk the thin line between dreams and reality. I walk this same thin line but every child’s dream is my reality and I don’t really like it. Hearing thoughts and seeing dreams night and day is not as awesome as most people think. Its a curse; would you want to know that the one you thought was your best friend who you trusted with everything, only hung around you out of pity or to get to your brother?
My pen stopped scarring the paper in front of me with black ink and I cursed shaking it and trying to continue writing my journal. After a few more failed attempts to get ink out of the pen, I threw in on the table in irritation. Some other customers glanced at me and quickly looked away when I caught them staring. A waitress came by and asked politely, “May I take your order?” Her thoughts told a whole different story, ‘Give me my tip and get out, already. god, why do I have to work in a dump like this?’ “I’ll have sweet tea with lemon and a loaded potato.” I say faking a smile to match hers. “Will that be all?” she asks while thinking, ‘Who wears shoes like that anymore and a turtleneck, seriously? Someone needs to give this nerd a fashion check.’ “I’m fine.” I say pulling at the collar of my red, knitted turtleneck. She walks away without another word and I take the chance to look at my shoes. They were old tattered Nike’s but I guess compared to the fur boots and sperrys people wore nowadays, they would be considered old fashioned. The waitress came back with my tea and said that my baked potato would be ready shortly. I flipped through my journal glancing at old pages I’ve read a dozen times. The records of my first mind reading, first vision, and the normal writings of high school life: Cliches, bullying, outcast. © 2013 Ashley G.Reviews
