It's a lie

It's a lie

A Poem by Lechusa
"

I wrote this poem shortly after our new president was elected.

"
The color of our skin is not who represents within,
Love thy neighbor when it's convenient,
Say nothing when it becomes oblivion,
It's a lie,
It's a lie,
They want the people to believe,
They tell us to pray to God,
But we're so tired,
Tired of these liars running the streets,
Dressed in clothing that makes them unique,
It's a lie,
It's a lie,
This freedom of speech,
We're allowed to speak only what they deem fit,
Spit in our face,
Then turn the other cheek,
We want to live in this world with peace,
But peace don't come,
Hate is here,
Now it's time to Trump,
Treat us how we were made to be,
Believing in a system that's kept us in a bubble,
Buried in the rubble,
Thinking we were free,
Fabrication of truth,
Systematic oppression,
Got us feeling depression,
Fight back and get incarcerated,
It's a lie,
It's a lie,
This red white and blue,
It's unforgiving,
And not made,
For me and for you.

Been meaning to read this for an open mic. Unsure of the rhythm. Nervous to share with the public but excited for feedback especially in our current political climate.

Treating people differently because of a difference in skin tone is about as ridiculous as hating everyone with red hair, or blue eyes, or the wrong brand of shoes, yet here we are in 2017 and we seem to be going backwards. The only wonder to me is how we managed to evolve at all.
Wonderful piece, very thought provoking.
