The Runaway

The Runaway

A Poem by H.M. Eccher

As I lay here and watch the moon
I know that I won't be home soon
I can do anything I want
My freedom I am proud to flaunt

I take everything I can
and I lay here out on the sand
All day long I lay and rest
Survival is the ultimate test

In the desert at night, it's cold
but I'm prepared, I was told
I've got coats and hats and shoes
My freedom, I just can't lose

I've run out of food by now
I can't go back, I don't know how
I leave my protective dome
Please tell my family I want to come home!
